What does sharpening a snowboard do

The smaller the flame, the less carbon builds up. Step 4: Let P-Tex drip cool and flush with a new razor blade or a Surform replacement blade. If your board is a Never Summer, you can bring it into the factory or contact info neversummer. These can happen when getting on or off a chair lift and hitting another rider or skiers metal edge or the board falling over when set upright.

Step 1: Place Duct tape on top-sheet and base on the damaged area just slightly above top-sheet to create an epoxy dam to keep any excess glue from running on the board.

Step 4: Dab epoxy into a separate area with a coffee stirrer or popsicle stick. Run the heat gun or hair dryer in quick sweeps over the area, to loosen epoxy, helping it to seep in. Step 5: Place metal, plastic, or thin wood pieces on the base and on the top sheet directly over the area. This keeps clamps from damaging the board. This keeps the glue from sticking to pieces. Additionally, really sharp edges get burrs in them sooner that normal edges.

I used a file on my old k2, but it was a backup board so i didnt care if it got messed up or not. Most boards do not need sharpening regularly. In fact, unless you are racing, do not even worry about sharpening your edges. Instead think about it as shaping and deburring. Once I adopted this philosophy, my board became a lot easier to maintain. Remember, a board with "sharp" edges and with burrs is a LOT worse off than a board with "not so sharp" edges and no burrs.

Also, sharp edges burr a lot easier. Use a fine grit sandpaper like grit or higher or even drywall sandpaper. Store your board indoors in house not in shed or garage to prevent rust from forming. Base edge tune-ups should be kept at the bare minimum and you should be careful to exercise the lightest pressure you can manage while sharpening them. Side edge tune-ups, on the other hand, should be kept up regularly, especially if you like to go snowboarding quite often. Usually, files should only be used to set new or more acute bevel angles.

Just do not get too overzealous when filing those edges! You cannot go back to a wider angle if you get too aggressive in your filing, and will instead have to commit to a board with more bite than you may want or anticipate. Of course, if you really want to get your board back to the previous angle, then you may need to get an aggressive base grind, a sidewall cut, or even both. It should be applied at a degree angle with a few medium-pressure strokes. If your nail peels, or bits of it start to scrape off without much effort, then your edges are as sharp as they need to be!

Use a gummi stone to knock down any burrs you might have accidentally made from tuning it earlier. Again, apply only very light pressure as you rub the stone down the length of the board. If you have an edge rubber, use it to scrub along each edge you sharpened. The rubber will shine up your edges nicely, remove any unsightly rust, even out any leftover imperfections, and may even improve the performance of your board as well.

Again, before you wax your base, make sure it is completely clean and free of any nicks or debris. Give each area four or five hard strokes to remove any excess wax or dirt. Most wax packages have a recommended temperature you should melt it at, which is especially helpful if you have a special iron with a temperature gauge built into it. If you only have a regular clothing iron, however, simply set it on a low temperature. Free Brochure. Ski Snowboard. New Zealand Treble Cone.
