You want to be ready, but not overly rehearsed. Last year, the prompt remained consistent in each round but evolved somewhat between rounds. After the team-based discussion, applicants have a brief, to minute discussion with a student or admissions officer. Play nice. Applicants may be tempted to view the team-based discussion as a competition with the other members of the group. If you have a fairly aggressive personality or tend to be long-winded, we caution you not to dominate the discussion.
This is an evaluation not only of your critical-thinking skills, but also of your collaboration and teamwork abilities. One way to show leadership but not dominate a discussion is to ask insightful questions that the group may want to consider and to help draw the group to consensus.
That said, Wharton is looking for future leaders, so if you tend to be shy or hesitant to speak up, you may want to make an extra effort to contribute to the discussion when you have a relevant thought or idea, or to draw out others. Remember: This is a bit of an awkward situation for everyone involved, so the other members of your group are going to be just as nervous as you are. The TBD is one element of the admissions process that, when pieced together with your written application, helps to paint a clearer picture of who you are and how you would fit into the class.
Our hope is that through a team-based discussion, you will not only be able to present how you approach and think about certain challenges and opportunities, but that you will also have a chance to experience, firsthand, the team work and learning dynamic that is central to our program. The TBD is a 35 exercise that provides an opportunity for you to interact with fellow MBA applicants in a lively team setting. Your discussion will have a prompt and a purpose and, as a team, you will work together to achieve a tangible outcome.
TBD groups are assigned randomly. Following the TBD, you will participate in a minute one-on-one interview with a member of the admissions team regarding your interest in Wharton. From there, you should focus on your past personal and professional experiences; think about what skills and techniques would resonate in this type of team setting. If you are invited to interview, you will complete two interviews: one with the Lauder program and one with the MBA program. Couple of points to keep in mind once you get the interview invite.
Make sure to pick up a day comfortable for you and not rush into booking the interview spot as TBD is a different way of interview. Give yourself some time to gather your thoughts for the TBD as each year the prompt will be different. I would learn this important thing later when I did not make it to Wharton or the one for which I had interviewed the day before! The campus visit was really good and I opted to go for 2 classes wanted to maximize my visit!
After attending the classes , we were made to wait in the waiting area just outside the TBD conference rooms and were called in a random order in groups of 6.
Once we all sat in the conference rooms alongwith 2 moderators 2nd year admission fellows , we were told again told about the TBD prompt. Once the time was open for a discussion, we all presented our 1 minute speech and then started to jot down points with the last 5 minutes to gather out thoughts and to present them to the moderators. All the participants were very receptive to others' ideas and everyone tried to work towards presenting a coherent chain of thoughts leading to a successful organization of a 1 day event.
Wharton might change the regulations : 1. Be very receptive of what others have to say. Try to assimilate most if not all the ideas presented. This will only show that you are a great listener. You can show initiative or action oriented nature by volunteering not fighting for keeping the time for the group or for taking the notes or for assigning the final presentation roles at the end of the TBD. Make sure that the group is on time at any given moment.
This is important as a group that does not respect time constraints in TBD will not have a single person selected from. Work together as a team and it might even be that all of you make it through. Be confident about what you say and how you say it. Dont use a condescending or a rude tone. As TBD is already for 35 minutes, the PI is kept really short by Wharton I personally think it is way too short to present any meaningful information , the interviewer did not seem interested to be engaged in the conversation it was at 5 PM at that time, just before the MBA Pub on Thursday!

You have to be adaptable in group situations. If you get too attached to an idea, especially your own idea, you could seem unreasonably bull headed. Be willing and eager to change your opinion as new ideas and information is introduced.
If you see that your team is stuck in a dead-end, remind everyone that this is a team effort and try suggesting a different approach.
You should only be speaking for a few minutes during the group interview 45 minutes divided among 6 people is 7. Ask them clarifying questions when a point needs to be honed a bit.
